twenty minutes
Terms of Use
These Terms govern your use of Twenty Minutes. Effective 6 October 2026.
The short version
- Twenty Minutes is a service that helps students and mentors schedule a twenty minute conversation.
- We do not guarantee that a meeting will take place or that it will lead to any particular result. Mentors are volunteers.
- Treat the people you meet with respect. If anything makes you uncomfortable, you may leave the meeting and report it to us.
- You must be 18 or older to use the Service.
Acceptance of these Terms
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and TwentyMinutes LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company ("Twenty Minutes", "we" or "us"), whose mailing address is 971 US Highway 202N, Ste N, Branchburg, NJ 08876. They govern your use of the Twenty Minutes website and service (the "Service").
You accept these Terms by ticking the box confirming that you agree to the Terms and the Privacy Policy when you sign in or accept an invitation. If you do not agree, do not tick the box and do not use the Service. These Terms are effective as of the date shown at the top of this page.
Twenty Minutes is an independent service. It is not affiliated with and is not endorsed by any university, and no university is a party to these Terms.
Eligibility
- You must be 18 or older to use the Service. We ask you to confirm your age, and by confirming it you represent that the confirmation is true.
- You may hold one account, for yourself only. You may not share your account or sign in as another person.
- The information you provide, including your name, school, role and the other details on your profile, must be accurate.
- Mentors join by invitation and are approved by a founder before their card is shown to students. We may decline or remove a mentor for any reason that is not unlawful.
The Service
The Service is a scheduling and matching tool. It shows a student a selection of mentors, allows mentors to offer times, and allows a student and a mentor to book a twenty minute conversation.
We are not an employer, a recruiter, a staffing agency, a school or an adviser. Nothing on the Service, and nothing a mentor says, is career, legal, financial or other professional advice from us. We do not place anyone in a job or an internship, and we do not guarantee interviews, offers, introductions or any other outcome.
We also do not guarantee that a meeting will happen. A mentor may cancel, a student may not attend, a time may be booked by someone else first, and the Service may be unavailable. We will try to notify you of changes, but we do not promise to do so.
The order in which mentors appear on a student's board is produced by a scoring formula. It is a suggestion only. It is not an assessment of any person, and it is not a representation that a mentor is a good match.
Notices about your account and your bookings, such as sign-in codes, confirmations, reminders and cancellations, are part of the Service and are sent by email. You cannot opt out of them while you have an account.
Mentor Terms
If you use the Service as a mentor, the following terms also apply to you:
- You participate as a volunteer. You are not paid, and you are not our employee, contractor or agent. You may not speak on our behalf.
- You are responsible for complying with your own employer's policies on outside activities, confidentiality and contact with students. You may not disclose information that is confidential to your employer or to anyone else.
- You may not use a meeting to sell anything, to recruit for your own business, or to ask for money, favors or a personal relationship.
- Publishing a time constitutes your agreement to meet at that time. If you cannot attend, cancel as early as you can.
User Conduct
These rules apply to students and mentors alike. You agree that you will not:
- harass, threaten, demean or discriminate against anyone, including on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age or any other protected characteristic;
- make romantic or sexual advances or requests, or solicit them;
- ask for money or sell or promote anything;
- record a meeting, or share a recording or screenshot of a meeting, without the clear consent of the other participant; or
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
If you are uncomfortable at any point, you may leave the meeting. You are not required to give a reason.
To report a concern, use the question in the survey we send after a meeting, or write to hello@twentyminutes.co. We will review the report. We may suspend or remove any user at any time, without notice where we consider it necessary, for breaking these rules or for any conduct that puts another person at risk.
Video Meetings
Most meetings are video calls. When we can, we create a Google Meet link for the meeting; when we cannot, the participants are responsible for arranging how to meet. Google's own terms and privacy policy apply to any Meet call you join. We do not attend, monitor or record meetings.
User Content
You retain ownership of the content you submit to the Service, such as your pitch, your brief and your notes. You grant us permission to store it, to show it to the people it is intended for (a mentor sees a student's brief, and a student sees a mentor's card), and to use it to operate, protect and improve the Service, as described in the Privacy Policy. This permission ends when the content is deleted, except for the research records described in the Privacy Policy.
Do not include anything in a brief or a note that you would not want the other participant to read. In particular, do not include health information, immigration status, government identifiers or anyone else's private details.
Acceptable Use
You agree that you will not:
- copy, scrape or harvest the Service, or information about its mentors or students, by automated means;
- use information obtained through the Service to send unsolicited commercial communications to anyone outside the Service;
- circumvent any limit, block or security measure, or attempt to access data that is not yours; or
- interfere with the Service, or attempt to disable or overload it.
The Service, including its design and software, is owned by us or our licensors. These Terms do not grant you any right to it other than the right to use the Service as intended.
Disclaimers
We do not verify anyone's identity, employer, job title, school or experience, and we do not conduct background checks. A mentor's card reflects what the mentor has told us. Use your own judgment about whom you meet and what you share.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". Except for the protections listed in the Limitation of Liability section, which this disclaimer does not affect, we make no warranties about the Service beyond those stated in these Terms, including any warranty that it will be uninterrupted or error free or that it will be fit for a particular purpose.
Limitation of Liability
Nothing in these Terms, including this section and the Disclaimers section, limits or excludes any of the following, in New Jersey or anywhere else:
- our liability for our gross negligence or our willful misconduct;
- a claim for personal injury caused by negligence;
- your remedies under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act, including treble damages and attorney's fees;
- your rights under the New Jersey Truth-in-Consumer Contract, Warranty and Notice Act;
- a claim for punitive damages where the law permits one; or
- any other statutory right you have, or any right that the law does not let a consumer waive or a business limit.
Subject to the exceptions above, and to the extent New Jersey law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost opportunities, arising from your use of the Service or from a meeting arranged through it. We are not responsible for what a mentor or student says or does, except to the extent caused by our own negligence. Our total liability to you for any other claim arising from the Service is limited to the greater of 100 dollars or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Because the Service is free to students, for most users that amount is 100 dollars.
Some states do not allow certain limitations of liability or disclaimers of warranties, so parts of this section may be void or unenforceable where you live. In New Jersey, the limitations in the preceding paragraph apply only to the extent New Jersey law allows them. Where the law gives you greater rights than these Terms, you keep those rights, and if a court finds any part of this section unenforceable in New Jersey, that part does not apply to you and the remainder stays in effect.
Indemnification
If someone brings a claim against us because you breached these Terms or the law, or because of your own misconduct, you agree to reimburse our reasonable costs of responding to that claim. This obligation applies only to claims arising from your own conduct, and never to anything done by us or by anyone else.
Suspension and Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time, and you may delete your account yourself: while signed in, select "Delete my account" in the footer at the bottom of the page. The Privacy Policy explains what happens to your information.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if we cannot confirm your identity, if it is necessary to protect another person, or if we stop offering the Service. Where reasonably possible, we will tell you the reason.
Dispute Resolution and Governing Law
New Jersey law governs these Terms, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts in New Jersey, and you and we each consent to the jurisdiction of those courts. Either party may instead bring a claim in small claims court if the claim qualifies.
These Terms contain no arbitration clause and no class action waiver. Nothing in these Terms limits any right you have to bring a claim in court or to file a complaint with a government agency.
Before starting a claim, please contact us at the address below so that we have an opportunity to resolve the matter.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If we make a material change, we will email you and ask you to agree again on your next visit, and the new version will not apply to you until you do. If you continue to use the Service after a minor change, such as the correction of a typo, you accept the updated Terms.
General
- Severability. If a court finds any provision of these Terms unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
- No waiver. Our failure or delay in enforcing any provision of these Terms is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment. You may not transfer your account. We may assign these Terms to a successor to our business, and we will notify you if we do.
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
